11. Raised by Dogs
Another story of abuse involves Oxana Malaya, a Ukrainian child who was neglected by her alcoholic parents. They forgot that Oxana had wandered outside, and that’s where the young girl remained for many years. She took up refuge in the family dog kennel and curled up against her pets to keep warm. Over the years, she began walking on all fours and barked and growled as a form of communication. When the authorities finally stepped in to save her, the group of dogs put up a fight. They tried to stop rescuers from taking her away, but they were eventually able to capture the young girl. As of 2010, the girl was living in a home for the mentally handicapped and reportedly has a tendency to revert back to the behaviors she learned from the pack of dogs.
