The LFL or lingerie football league isn’t fake news its been a thing since 2009. Here are a few things you should know as we bid you Welcome to the Weird World of Lingerie Football!
1. It’s no longer called the Lingerie Football League
Founded in 2009 the lingerie football league changed its name to legends football league in 2013 and has most recently been restructured as the extreme football league or x league.
2. They don’t get paid!
Although originally a professional league with players receiving a cut of the net revenue, CEO Mitch Mortaza stopped paying the players in the 2011 season converting the league into an amateur organization.
3. The uniforms cover more than they used to
Originally the uniform was an athletic bra and underwear with lace ribbons and a garter. They have now lost the lace and garter and moved to activewear similar to that of volleyball players.
4. They hit hard!
While it looks like an incredibly misogynistic sport, The women who play it give 100% with injuries being far too common and screaming, cussing coaches, the norm.
5. They pay for their own health insurance!
While Health insurance is obligatory in the LFL it isn’t paid for. Players must find and pay for their own insurance.
6. It’s kind of a big thing!
Although most of us hadn’t even heard of it, it’s turning into a global sport, with leagues in Australia and Canada. There are also future plans to have three world leagues, LFL Americas, LFL Europa, and LFL Oceania.
7. It might be ok in the end!
The extreme football league is now offering ownership stakes to its players and coaches depending on the individual’s commitment to the organization, also a revenue distribution program for merchandise featuring an individual player’s likeness. There is also a full pants home game uniform. So maybe someday we’ll get to see fully paid women in full kit playing women’s football!
