As good as your intentions are, as closely as you’ve listened, and as much as you care about someone who’s suffering from depression, never ask them if your help has improved their lot. It puts undue pressure on them to fake feeling better when more work might be needed. Clinical depression isn’t something you can solve in a single conversation and it’s best to keep that in mind.
