15. “Oh, you’re depressed? I’ve been there!”
Sure, everyone of us has been at a point in our lives when we’ve been sad, even for a few days at a time. That is not depression, and, no, you haven’t been there. Depression is an affliction that surpasses a person’s natural ability to feel joy for an extended period of time. It’s unshakable. It makes one feel alienated and sometimes weak. Drawing attention to their suffering in such a flippant way isn’t the best approach.
