8. Project Artichoke

If you weren’t aware, the US Government loves themselves some LSD. They might even like the stuff more than Phish fans. Throughout history, the Army has consistently tried to find a productive use for LSD. Project Artichoke was one such attempt. In an effort to refine the art of interrogation, Project Artichoke tested the impact of not only forced LSD dosing on human subjects, it also tossed in extreme isolation, forced morphine addiction (and withdrawal), and even hypnosis on human prisoners.
