7. The Florida-Georgia Experiments
the US Army has a long history of spending their money on nasty side projects, but the 1956-57 mosquito experiments might be the worst. In this case, researchers infected millions of mosquitoes with yellow fever and dengue fever. These mosquitoes were then released on the American cities of Savannah, Georgia and Avon Park, Florida. The goal was to determine what would happen if mosquitoes were to descend on a small town and get everybody sick. Guess what happened? Lots of people — including a bunch of researchers — caught yellow fever and dengue fever. Shocker.
