4. The Aversion Project

From 1971 to 1989, otherwise known in South Africa as the period of apartheid, South African doctor Aubrey Levin subjected hundreds of homosexuals to torturous “cures” for their affliction. Known as the Aversion Project, Levin used a mixture of chemical castration and electric shock treatment in an attempt to turn the men off of homosexuality.
