13. US Navy Tests Mustard Gas On Its Own Soldiers
During World War II, the US Army drafted soldiers to participate in experiments that were designed to test the results of mustard gas on soliders. These soldiers were led to wooden gas chambers, crammed inside, and then studied while they writhed in pain. Even worse, these experiments were only performed on minority soldiers. White soldiers were used as a “control” group, meaning they were not exposed to the harmful gas. The impacted soldiers were sworn to secrecy and “received no follow-up health care or monitoring of any kind.”
