5. The Color Green

While green is the color most commonly associated with St. Patrick’s Day now, traditionally it was blue. Sky blue was the color most often associated with St. Patrick’s order and, by extension, blue has a pronounced presence in Irish history (it still appears on the country’s coat of arms). Green is the traditional color of Irish Catholics. Incidentally, the colors of the Irish flag represent the two major groups, Catholics (green) and Protestants (orange). The white space is supposed to represent the eventual truce between the two groups.
