At the moment, Donald Trump is the undisputed frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination. Against all odds, flying in the very face of logic, and in spite of hundreds of hours of commentary excoriating the man, he’s probably going to get it, too. Let’s allow ourselves a brief moment to weep for the state of America’s democracy and then move on … Okay, better? Now, it’s time to take a look at the man who will almost inevitably represent half of the country. Now, I’m hardly the first person to suggest that Donald Trump is full of hot air, or that the future candidate makes a regular habit of contradicting himself. Thankfully, in the age of modern media — and given how much Trump loves his own dubious mug — there’s lots of evidence to actually back up that statement. Trump is either convinced that the truth is whatever he says it is in the moment, or even he’s not dumb enough to actually listen to himself speak.
1. On Megyn Kelly
Trump’s recent dispute with Fox News darling Megyn Kelly prompted the be-wigged ratings magnet to skip the Fox News presidential debate because it was set to be hosted by the anchor. You see, the two personalities have had beef ever since she had the unmitigated gaul to ask Donald Trump a tough question at a debate (#TeamKelly). Trump responded by throwing a tantrum and skipping the next debate, saying, “I’m not a person that respects Megyn Kelly very much. I think she’s highly overrated,” before he tried to claim that she was not the reason he skipped the debate. Those comments are interesting, though, given the fact that mere months before, while appearing on Fox News opposite Kelly, Trump beamed, “You have done a great job, by the way, and I mean it.”
