9. Khan, the Kid Saver

As though you needed more evidence to pick up a shelter dog, here’s the story of Khan. The Doberman had been rescued from an Australian shelter for a mere four days when he started behaving oddly around the family toddler while she was playing in the front yard. Said Khan’s owner, “Khan was really concentrating and was acting aggressively towards Charlotte – and kept trying to nudge her but it wasn’t working. So he grabbed her by the back of the nappy and threw her over his shoulder more than a metre, like she was a rag doll.” As it turns out, a king brown snake had targeted the child when Khan leapt into action.
