6. Quagga
The quagga was once common in South Africa. This cousin of the plains zebra once roamed the savannah of their native country. Then, as the Dutch began to overtake South Africa, the quagga was hunted extensively to make room for domesticated animals. Though there was a last-minute attempt to save the quagga by keeping herds in zoos, the last quagga passed away in 1883.
