11. Aurochs
Before the emergence of cows, as we know them, there was the auroch, a kind of bison-cow hybrid that roamed Europe and Asia for millennia. Throughout their lifespan, the species was domesticated at least twice (by both Indians and Europeans), events that gave rise to the modern cow as we know it. The auroch itself was not to survive into the modern era; the last recorded aurochs died in Poland in 1627.
