10. Passenger Pigeon
The passenger pigeon was known to migrate throughout North America for hundreds of years. It was known as a source of food for Native American hunters, a tradition that carried over into the nineteenth century when the Passenger Pigeon was eradicated and repurposed as a source of cheap food. People realized the issue too late, however, and the last passenger pigeon died in the Cincinnati Zoo on September 1, 1914.
