The Japanese seem to have a gift of finding weird and wonderful new ways to surprise people… This reaction is so revered they have a word for it “Dokkiri” which means to extract the best, most unexpected reaction from an unsuspecting person by way of a hidden camera prank…
In most cases the pranks start simple…
It might be that in the changing room the production team has sewed one of your trouser-legs shut…
The bad luck might then be turned up a notch, and get a bit… messier.
In many cases the targets are famous actors who have been hired to do a bogus task. Like reporting their first paragliding experience…
Here the instructor is explaining the important instructions of what position she needs to be in, to prepare her for the flight.
Note his glasses that he just managed to catch in his hand!
The next prank is a Drag Mob. But what is a drag mob? 72 men dressed in full drag all after this one unsuspecting individual…
Sometimes a famous idol is used to instigate the prank, like Miwako Kakei, here casually flirting with the target. All just to get his final confused reaction…
Here we have a Dokkiri master; The Cheerful Producer. A man who walks the corridors of a TV network greeting old acquaintances, only to find… He doesn’t actually know them at all.
Rafu-kun is an adorable blue mascot who surprises his victims by bumping into them. But you can’t blame the poor dog he’s blind! On realising this the victim gives Rafu a sympathetic hug and that’s when the real prank happens.
In this final prank, a boyfriend is nervous at the prospect of meeting his girlfriend’s father for the first time. As they reach her home, he is surprised by how expensive everything is. There is something here that she hasn’t told him… He quickly suspects his father-in-law is involved with the Yakuza, the Japanese gangster mob and tries to find out subtly.
The father-in-law completely intimidates him and then asks what his job is. Embarrassed about being a comedian, he lies and says he is an ‘employee’. And then says more specifically helpful work related to the arts. His girlfriend calls him out. He shoots her a pleading look. His lie has worked him into a very awkward corner, now having to perform a comedy act in front of Japanese gangsters. An appearance by another gang hitman shakes things up for the already nervous boyfriend.
Which one of these pranks did you think was the funniest?
