6. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
This is quite a well known film based on the bestselling book that is essentially a crime thriller. A man hires a journalist to find out what happened to his niece, Harriet, when she disappeared years ago. There are a couple of scenes at the beginning involving Lisbeth (the protagonist) and her state guardian that are a little gross, and the discovery of what was happening to Harriet as well as Blomfeild’s plastic bag scene will make you uncomfortable.
The worst of the worst
The rape scene. Visually it’s almost tame, as not much is actually seen. It was, however, the most disturbing, hard-to-watch scene I’ve ever come across. Scarring doesn’t even begin to describe it. I watched it with a feeling that came close to panic, and spent the rest of the film feeling nauseous. Of all the scenes on this list, this is the one that affected me physically. I think I can remember whimpering.
