4. Skynet Is Just Lonely

Skynet is the massive super-computer that produces evil robots with the sole purpose of eradicating the human race (in order to save the world) in the Terminator franchise. That’s … that’s it, basically. That’s all it’s there for.
It’s pretty crap at it’s job though, considering it sends a kill-bot back into the past in order to stop John Conner (apparently the only human being capable of mounting a resistance against the Terminators) from being born. An action which actually leads to Sarah Conner (John’s mother) and his father (who came from the future to protect Sarah) meeting, falling in love (well, lust really) and conceiving John. In fact if Skynet had done nothing, John Conner would never have been born.

Hmmm, strange mistake for an infallible super-computer to make. A mistake it would repeat five more times in it’s attempts to kill John Conner. Instead of using biological warfare to end these ridiculously fragile humans. Or nuclear missiles. Which it has a bunch of.

Unless, you take into account the fact that Skynet is self-aware. It’s sole purpose is to keep earth safe and humans are it’s only obstacle. It knows this, it also knows you can only annihilate an entire species once. Then the fun and games are over and your entire reason for existence is gone. Also you’re stuck on a planet populated entirely by badly-molded silicone covered Robotzenggers.

Of course if you ensure your worst enemy’s birth and continued existence, then you will never have to wonder what to do with the rest your unlimited artificial life. You can fight against them forever!

Textbook super-villain behavior.
