No matter how cynical we get as adults, there’s something alluring about a simple storybook aesthetic, isn’t there? The clean lines, easy-to-follow plots, and straightforward morals were a hallmark of every person’s childhood. We’re still drawn to the visual, even if the content has gotten a little bit boring. Perhaps that’s the draw of Josh Cooley’s art project, in which the artist uses that universally loved storybook style to depict something even a jaded, cynical adult can find entertaining: iconic scenes of violence, comedy, and just plain oddity from some of Hollywood’s most endearing movies. If you want a trip down memory lane without having to suffer through the same old content, Cooley’s art is something you don’t want to miss.
