Everyone loves a good scary story every once in awhile, and even better when those scary stories are based in truth. They may be a bit embellished for dramatic effect, but these aren’t pure made up urban myths. Here are some real life haunted houses that either have a creepy story behind them, or continue to have ghosts that haunt people to this day…or both. See if you believe any of these tales.
1. Villisca Ax Murder House
In Villisca, Iowa there was once a grisly ax murdering case that was never solved. In 1912 an entire family of two adults and six children were murdered in their home. According to many, the ghosts of the murdered family never left. Voices and footsteps have been heard, and apparitions have been seen. Psychics claim the place is riddled with spiritual activity. The house is open for daytime tours, but sometimes they are interrupted by children’s voices, falling lamps and moving objects. It is also possible to book the place for an overnighter, should you be so creepily inclined.
